CONTRACT FOR THE EASTERN CAPE ITS DBOM
Bona has been awarded the Contract for the Eastern Cape ITS DBOM contract – and this now sets us at the forefront of ITS (Intelligent Transport System) contracts in South Africa.
In 2021, the Tolcon Group was awarded the contracts for the Design, Build, Operate and Maintain (DBOM) for the freeway management systems (FMS) for Gauteng and the Western Cape, and we are the Sub-contractor to the Tolcon Group and are responsible for the Build and Maintain portion of the contracts.
The Eastern Cape contract will see us using ITS Technologies to optimize the use of the SANRAL freeways and roadways. The use of CCTV cameras, traffic sensors, traveler information technologies, advanced traffic management solutions and response co-ordination to incidents.
The Design-Build-Operate-Maintain aspect of the contract entails the design of a new Freeway Management System, as all construction is green fields, together with green energy solutions including solar and wind turbines.
Following the acceptance of the designs, we will supply, construct / install all new systems. We will also be responsible for the operation of the new ITS functions, and all operations will be handled from the new Traffic Management Centre which we will build.
The contract duration is for 72 months (6-years) and together with the Gauteng and Western Cape SANRAL contracts with the Tolcon Group, and now with SANRAL Eastern Cape, Bona is at the forefront of the current ITS arena in South Africa.
SANRAL FREEWAY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TENDERS
In November 2020, the Tolcon Group was awarded the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) Freeway Management System (FMS) Tenders.
The contracts entail the Design, Build, Operate and Maintain (DBOM) the freeway management systems (FMS) for Gauteng and the Western Cape, and Tolcon is required to manage traffic by means of the use of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) in order to optimise the use of civil infrastructure.
The Sub-contractor, Bona Electronic Solutions, will be responsible for the Build and Maintain portion of the contracts, which includes the supply, installation, system integration and maintenance of the CCTV cameras, traffic sensors, a variety of data sources, the traveller information technologies and advanced traffic management solutions.
N3 Toll Route Replacement and Maintenance of the Variable Message Signs
In June 2021, Bona Electronic Solutions was awarded the tender for the replacement and maintenance of the Variable Message Signs (VMS) for the N3 Toll Route.
The Contract includes the replacement and maintenance of existing Variable Message Signs (VMS) located along the N3 Freeway from Cedara to Heidelberg on the North and South bound carriageways.
Bona Electronic Solutions is responsible for the supply, installation, configuration, testing and commissioning of the Variable Message Signs, including the support structures to mount the VMS’s.
